Fear and Greed

I do not know, what motivate other people to accept a deal or not. I certainly not able to know what people have in mind.

However i do know that we, as human beings motivate by fear and greed. Fear of losing the thing that we hold dear and asking more for enjoyment that we felt.

When doing a conversation with other people, if i listen to them carefully, somehow i can catch up what they fear and what they want to have more. Money is usually what they want to have more, and expenses are mostly people would like to avoid.

In some cases, people think their dignity and value are higher than money, they even say that their honor is worth to die for. People like that tend to lose a lot of money to retain how they think about themselves.

After decades in business world, i grow weary of fear and greed, as fear will make me avoid a decision that i have to make to keep my self feel safe, though the situation at that moment require me to make an action. Greed, on the other hand, make me enter into situation when there is no logical situation to do so.

I just met a family whose business thrive in online retail. Compare to mine, retail business is quick money, you do not have to wait for payment, the customer will pay you instantly for your product. its retail anyway.

I do feel the feeling of excitement in such business. Its like an ideal business transaction. Compare to my business which has to wait certain period of time before i receive payment, its like living in a paradise. I felt the urge to jump ship to retail business when listening to his story about his business.

However, that time i thought, “ hey wake up, a business should not be decided on a such greed, other people business might have its sweetness, but your business as well”

Yeah, its an inner conversation with myself, i can do such conversation because i train myself not to do anything base of emotions alone. reasons and logical mapping has proven to me more fruitful than following emotions

Mapping is a technique i use, just like reading a map, i put my situation in a map, where there is a place i want to visit, roads, mountains, rivers, safety houses, etc.

After mapping, i am doing calculation about the time needed to reach my goals, and the potential of new roads and its danger.

In a second, i could tell my subconciousness my detail analysis, and wiser decision made. Stay on course as there is not much time to jump ship, its better to use my current way of doing business until its fully mature and bear fruit.

Changes are good, but it should be done after a careful analysis and understanding of situation. Otherwise we may lose something, in may case, my precious time
