Throughout history, many sages and saints who were renowned as spiritual persons with great spirituality, influence and followers. Did not neccessarily lead a happy life? often than not, they were crucified, poisoned, amputated and so on. Their lives were sometimes an epitome of tragedies. In which their followers, remember their suffering in tears, how come a great person like them suffered a great misfortune and suffering.
At least there were three sages and saints who gave inspiration to me but suffered misfortunes and tragedies. The first one is Jesus Christ, Jesus taught people how to connect with God’s within us, heal sick people, he even taught how to forgive those who wronged us, but people still crucified him till death. The second one is Sidharta Gautama, he taught about how to overcome suffering in life and be at peace with yourself, nevertheless there was a event when someone release angry elephant on his way, in order to crush him to pulp. The last one is Confucius, he taught people how to be dilligent in study, respectful to everyone yet he had to live like a beggar for years.
Therefore its very weird for me, when people pray to these historical figures ask for fortune and safety for any misfortune and suffering in their mundane life. Thinking that they have super power to bend reality to their liking to satisfy their followers. Even they, during their life on earth, unable to do so, what is the justification that they can do it after they have passed.
Instead of wishing for their miracles, i tend to learn from their teachings. They taught us, the citizen of the earth, about how to live a better life, solving conflicts, and overcome misfortune. It is in their teachings, the power, the miracle that can change our life to be better, avoid unnecessary tragedies and sufferings.
The world, the universe is always in contanst changing, we need their teachings to cope with ever changing circumstances. It is not in their power to bend reality, however they have internal power, to handle and overcome any misfortune that befell to them.
Those saints and sages, we call them that, not just because they have super power to create miracles, any magician and future technology might do better. We call them saints and sages, because they posses knowledge to accept misfortunes cause by ever changing universe, and turn it into fortune.
Do saints and sages still experience loss and disaster? yes they do, but the way they still can smile and be kind to others despite experiencing that are the inner quality worth to be called saints and sages
