I Practiced Reiki for 20 Years Before I Understood How It Actually Works

The Surprising Truth About Energy Healing, Your Body, and Why You Should Care

There’s no telling how many people are desperately trying to figure out how to heal themselves from acute or life-threatening diseases like cancer.

And honestly? I don’t blame them.

Yes, there are breakthroughs in cancer treatments. Yes, modern medicine is advancing. But sometimes the therapies are just too expensive for ordinary people. Sometimes the results aren’t satisfactory. And sometimes—frustratingly—promising new treatments never even pass human testing, even when they’ve been proven effective in mice.

For many of us—including my own family—having a loved one diagnosed with cancer is devastating. It destroys our mental health. It empties our wallets. It leaves us grasping for anything that might help.

That’s why alternative therapies become so attractive. We don’t stop to ask: is this proven? Is it safe? As long as it’s cheaper than modern healthcare, we’ll try it. Desperation makes us brave—or reckless.

I know this because I’ve been there.

How I Got Hooked on Reiki

When I first learned about Reiki and heard the story of how Sensei Hawayo Takata was cured of her cancer, I was instantly captivated.

I didn’t waste any time. I got my Reiki attunement quickly. I completed my 3rd degree Reiki in just two years.

But here’s the thing: apart from the miraculous healing stories—Takata’s and others—I wasn’t really convinced. I needed proof.

So I asked people to let me give them Reiki sessions. They felt good. They felt relaxed. Their minds felt less stressed. But that’s it.

I didn’t have any solid proof. I couldn’t confidently declare that Reiki could replace medicine. I couldn’t say it could heal open wounds or cure illnesses.

So I kept practicing—for nearly 20 years—but I avoided giving Reiki sessions to others. I wasn’t confident enough. I didn’t want to promise something I wasn’t sure I could deliver.

The Surprising Discovery

Here’s the funny thing about practicing something for 20 years: changes happen so gradually that you barely notice them.

Without realizing it, something shifted in my body.

Before Reiki, I used to get sick 3 to 5 times a year. That was normal for me. Colds, flus, the usual stuff.

After practicing Reiki? Almost none.

I rarely got sick. And even when I did, it rarely lasted more than 2 days.

That’s when I realized: Reiki practice had somehow strengthened my immune system.

But I still hadn’t found a clue about how to help people recover from something as simple as influenza or a cold—let alone cancer.

I could sense bad vibes or energies from the body, but I didn’t know how to deal with them. I had the radar, but no weapons. Frustrating, right?

The Game-Changing Moment

Then I learned Qi Gong. And everything started making sense.

Here’s what I understood:

Our body is actually a chemical reactor.

Every moment of every day, our glands, organs, and cells work incredibly hard to maintain order and chemical balance within our body.

When we get sick, it’s because one or more of our body functions are in trouble.

As we age, our body slowly degenerates. Our immune system isn’t as strong. Our organs don’t perform as well. Our glands produce fewer hormones.

Previously, our body could balance itself, produce its chemicals naturally. Now, if we don’t take care of it, it can’t perform well. And that’s when we get sick.

How Reiki Actually Works

Here’s the part that blew my mind:

Our body is an organic machine. There are countless chemical processes and physical mechanics that keep us alive and healthy.

When we get sick, our body has its own Standard Operating Procedure. It knows how to fight the illness. It has built-in healing mechanisms.

So what does Reiki actually do?

Reiki doesn’t directly change the chemical processes or alter the mechanics in our body.

Instead, Reiki rays work like stimulants for our cells.

  • They stimulate glands to produce hormones
  • They stimulate cells to excrete waste and toxins
  • They kick our body’s healing mechanisms into high gear

Those hormones that our glands produce? Those are our medicines.

Our body makes its own medicine. We just need to help it do its job.

The Emotional Connection

I also learned something fascinating:

Our glands and organs are extremely sensitive to our emotions.

Every emotion—whether good or bad—stimulates our glands and organs to inject hormones into our body.

When I understood this, I felt like I finally had a choice. It’s my decision whether I give my body poison or medicine.

For simplicity:

  • Bad emotions = inject toxins into our body
  • Good emotions = inject medicine into our body

This is why stress, anger, and despair make us sick. And why joy, gratitude, and peace make us healthy.

Here’s the beautiful part:

Reiki rays don’t just stimulate our cells and organs. They also alter our mind and emotions.

When I felt overwhelmed with emotions like frustration and desperation, I could rely on my meditation and Reiki practices to regulate my emotions. I could literally choose to calm myself down. To shift from poison to medicine.

A Word of Caution

Now, before you get too excited, let me be honest with you:

Our body’s ability to handle imbalance depends on how healthy our general health is.

As we age, our body’s ability to handle imbalance decreases. We’re not invincible. We’re not immortal.

In other words, we still get weaker as we get older. And eventually, we die of old age when our body can no longer maintain its functions.

But here’s the thing: there’s a big difference between dying with a happy smile on your face and dying miserably.

My Final Question For You

For you, my friend, which one do you choose?

Will you spend your life stressed, angry, and frustrated? Will you let your emotions poison your body?

Or will you learn to regulate your emotions? Will you practice gratitude and peace? Will you give your body the medicine it needs?

Reiki won’t make you immortal. It won’t cure everything. It won’t replace modern medicine.

But it might just help you live a healthier, happier, more peaceful life.

And isn’t that worth trying?

What I Want You to Know

After 20 years of practice, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Reiki strengthens your immune system
  • Reiki helps regulate your emotions
  • Reiki stimulates your body’s natural healing mechanisms
  • Reiki works best alongside healthy habits and modern medicine

It’s not magic. It’s biology.

Your body is incredible. It knows how to heal itself. It produces its own medicine.

Sometimes, it just needs a little help—a gentle nudge to remind it how powerful it really is.

Reiki can be that nudge.

But remember: you’re the one who has to make the choice. You’re the one who has to practice. You’re the one who has to believe in your body’s ability to heal.

The power is in your hands.
