It is unfortunate that the market is always shifting up and down.
No matter how hard I try to stabilize my business, there is always something unseen unfolding in the background—unpredictable elements that can cause initial plans or dreams to fall apart. The only thing I can do in those moments is try to accept the reality first. Sometimes that is very hard to do because the initial surge of frustration and disappointment is so intense. Calm and peaceful times simply do not last forever.
Over time, I designed a personal system to handle these emotional surges during difficult moments. This system consists of several practical steps I take to regain control of my mind and emotions, allowing me to see the core of a problem clearly and discover optimal solutions.
Here is how I navigate unpredictable moments and emotional storms:
Step 1: Physical Isolation and Awareness Meditation
First, I remove myself from the noise. I step into a quiet room, sit down alone, and meditate. When market bad news hits, my emotions run high—my heart beats fast, and my breathing feels constricted. The purpose of meditating in this initial moment is purely to build awareness, taking back control from the emotional surge and allowing calm to slowly return.
Step 2: Practice Tonglen Meditation (Emotional Recycling)
Next, I practice Tonglen—a Tibetan meditation centered on receiving and giving. In this practice, I visualize accepting and receiving not just my own misfortune and pain, but also the pain, anger, and frustration of everyone else facing similar business struggles. Then, I visualize sending back blessings, strength, and prosperity to them—and to myself in the process. Tonglen is a powerful practice because it helps me capture negative emotional surges, recycle them, and project positive energy outward. This is my core foundation for dealing with adversity.
Step 3: Revitalize Mind and Body with Qigong or Yoga
Once I regain control of my reasoning, I add physical practices like Yoga or Qigong to revitalize my mind and body with fresh Qi (life energy). Sudden surges of panic severely deplete our energy reserves. If we don’t recharge, we are left without inspiration or creativity. No good solutions ever come from a lack of Qi.
Step 4: Reframe Reality and Mind-Map Solutions
After recharging my Qi, my mind reaches a state of serene peace. My perspective shifts: the coldness of fear transforms into warm confidence. From this state of clarity, I begin mind-mapping the situation. I analyze the problem objectively and outline every available option.
Step 5: Execute and Release the Outcome
Finally, I execute the best available plan—while intentionally setting my mind to accept whatever result follows. This is the most crucial part: if I don’t detach from the outcome, the plan itself will generate new anxiety. By releasing control over the final result, I find true peace. I have done everything within my power; now it is the universe’s turn to work. I accept whatever comes.
A Quick Tip for Busy Days: In practice, if I am rushed and don’t have the luxury of time to sit alone for a full meditation session, I skip straight to Step 2 (Tonglen). Remember, we aren’t trying to fight or suppress our emotions—we are accepting and recycling them into useful energy so we can see clearly and act with wisdom.
Peace be with you.
